Hamilton City Hawks and Times-7 Sport appear to have a mutual admiration society going on.
Graham Dudfield from Hamilton City Hawks enthuses "We are very happy with the IPICO Lite system, and it is certainly getting plenty of use".
"Graham was proactive right from the beginning of the process" comments Michael Lynch, General Manager of Times-7 Sport. "He thoroughly researched the best electronic timing system in terms of efficiency and ease of use and he was in regular contact with questions during this time. He was determined to purchase the IPICO Electronic Timing System for his club, and we were delighted to assist him through this process"
"Our weekly Eastside 5kms runs used to be a hassle to time manually" reflects Graham Dudfield, "taking up to three helpers to record times and numbers. Results were not available until the following week, except for the winners."
"Graham has not only quickly mastered the IPICO Lite system, but he has then taken it a step further to fit with the specific requirements of the Club" adds Michael Lynch.
Hamilton City Hawks normally get 80-90 runners in the weekly 5km run. They have now set up a very simple system whereby they have designed a board which holds named tags of all regular entrants (about 180 or so) - some more regular than others.
Entrants collect their tags, pay their $6 and then run the event. Tag Data from the IPICO Lite system is loaded on the USB stick and while a volunteer packs up the system, Graham prints the results. He has developed a simple customized reporting system to download data from the tag data file and produce instant results.
Hamilton City Hawks have now included a Handicap race every four weeks. A start time handicap is automatically generated from the runners two best times -
a clock is set up next to the start mat and runners start themselves when the clock shows their start time.
"These handicap races are very popular" adds Graham Dudfield, "last night we had 32 Personal Bests and we had 50 finishers finishing within a minute. It wouldn't be possible to time them with out the IPICO system".
"The big picture is that the competitive experience is improved for all athletes - whether they are social or elite. They all enjoy the added competitive opportunity to improve their times against themselves and their team mates".
"We are in the business of creating timing solutions" says Michael Lynch "So this is a dream outcome for us where a client has purchased a timing system and has utilized its capabilities so comprehensively".
"We will use a similar system for our club races when the running season starts," continues Graham Dudfield, "and we're certainly looking forward to timing our annual Huntly Half Marathon this year - it will be a breeze with the new IPICO system!"
"It's the best investment the club has made", concludes Graham Dudfield.
