Thousands of people sprinted, stumbled or strolled over the finish line in the 12th annual Wellington Round the Bays fun run and walk.
The picturesque 7km course around the bays starts at Franks Kitts Park before heading along Oriental Parade and finishing at Kilbirnie Park.
More than 9,000 participants competed this year with all tastes catered for. The Team Relay attracted a strong corporate following and the New Balance Half Marathon, now in its second year, proved to be a success with almost 1,500 entrants. Of particular note was the Heart Racers who raised over $5,000 for the Heart Foundation.
"The diversity of people and abilities all add to the flavour of the day," enthuses Sport Wellington Events and Marketing Manager Caroline Kidston. "Many competitors are not race-savvy and are simply here to enjoy the brilliant atmosphere - but you can be sure that they expect to receive their respective times just as much as the elite athletes".
"The IPICO electronic timing system performed faultlessly" says Gavin Chaplow Product Manager for Times-7 Sport. "The quality of data we received from on-line entry provider Event Director made the data collation a breeze so that results were sent to both the Dominion Post and Sport Wellington within minutes of the last competitors crossing the finish line" continues Gavin.
"In line with our philosophy of creating timing solutions, we partnered with one of our own customers, event management company Timing Sports. This collaboration ensured that we consistently delivered the very best service and professionalism to our client" says Gavin.
"Times-7 Sport is our timing provider and we can relax knowing that they deliver prompt and accurate times" says Paul Cameron, CEO from Sport Wellington. "Once again they delivered the results that we expect and we know they can quickly respond to the changes and challenges typical of this type of event".
"We just leave them to it and get on with running a spectacular event" says Paul Cameron.
