The IPICO Elite Sports Time-Keeping system was used for the first occasion in Warrnambool, South Western Victoria to time the 30th running of the annual Surf ‘T' Surf on January 9 2011. It is a beautiful setting and the summer's fickle weather did not disappoint the record field as in excess of 1,300 competitors greeted the morning sun.
Times-7 Sport used their IPICO system to provide results and accurately record the times and placings across the 10k and 6k disciplines. With a 50% increase for the field over the 2010 event, organizer Ben Anderson was both exhausted and thrilled with the event. "We saw on-line entry and electronic timing as the next step for our event and Times-7 Sport worked with us all the way, " Ben said. "We look forward to making this event bigger and better than ever next year and to working with Times-7 Sport on the 2012 event".
His car might have overheated on the way to Warrnambool yesterday morning but Ballarat's Nic Van Raaphorst stayed cool in the 10-kilometre Surf ‘T' Surf fun run. The 26-year-old proved he was better without four wheels when he powered through the course to collect line honours. Showing no sign of fatigue, the nimble baker looked ready to do another lap. The driver of the car was the eventual winner of the 6-kilometre walk, Andrew Blood.
Warrnambool runner Ella Gill smashed her personal best and collected the Judy McDowall Memorial award on the way in yesterday's Surf ‘T' Surf 10-kilometre run. The 22-year-old was the first female across the line in the feature field, with a time of 38 minutes and 23 seconds, "I'm rapt with that time, I wanted to break 40 minutes and I did."
