Dusty and hard-packed tracks with just a drop of overnight rain made for the perfect mountain bike environment for the 8th annual Eastern Express Mountain Bike Challenge at Eskdale MTB Park, Napier.
Times-7 Sport chose this event to test the new WheelTime side-mounted antenna system. "It's such a demanding course so we knew that the system would be challenged" says Gavin Chaplow, Product Manager from Times-7 Sport.
"We have exhaustively tested this timing system over the last six months, and we wanted to test it in a rugged environment" adds Michael Lynch, General Manager of Times-7 Sport. "Specifically, this system deploys the side-mounted antenna only, which eliminates the need for any ground mats, making it ideal for Mountain Bike events"
The event attracted 120 competitors over 11 categories and four different set distances. "We received 100% read-rate and accuracy, and we were able to deliver instant results to the competitors and the organisers," reported Gavin Chaplow.
The WheelTag was also put through its paces on the course, with some pretty spectacular spills.
"We needed to be absolutely certain that the WheelTags would stay in place in this rugged terrain, and the cyclists obliged by giving them a great workout!" laughs Gavin. "The WheelTags stayed firmly in place and delivered the results."
"It was great having WheelTime for the timing of the event," says Carl Larsen, Event Organiser from the Hawke's Bay MTB Club. "We enjoyed a stress-free and well-run event, and it enabled our busy volunteers to get on with running the day"
"We were impressed with not only the accuracy of the system, but also the speed in which we received the results" he adds.
"This has been a successful collaboration with HB MTB Club, and we're now looking forward to launching this system in the first quarter of 2009, allowing Mountain Bike Clubs and organisations to professionally time their own events," concludes Michael Lynch.
