Mighty Murray Man a Success

Channel 7 Star Daniel MacPherson competes in the Murray Man TriathlonAdelaide Vales hosted the 2009 Flight Centre Murray Man Triathlon which is South Australia's biggest tri event and a qualifier for the World Long Course Triathlon in Perth later this year.

Competitors representing every state in Australia toed the line for the 2nd running of the Murray Man Triathlon, held at Murray Bridge South Australia on March 22nd.

Among the 250+ Age group athletes chasing vital points for the ITU World Long Course Championchip was Channel 7 Star Daniel MacPherson from City Homicide as well as many Australian age group champions.

The elite competitors were chasing the $4400 in cash on offer and a vital last hit out before the upcoming Australian Ironman Triathlon. The event was run over an equalizer format in which the elite females got a 17min 30s head start with the first male or female across the line receiving a $1000 bonus.

The IPICO DF system worked flawlessly providing spectators and competitors with the information needed for an event as important as this. Adelaide Vales used three separate IPICO systems enabling transition splits to be provided for all the athletes looking for that vital edge.

Eight timing points were possible with the three systems and Adelaide Vales President Darren Pollock was thrilled with the results "an important event like The Murray Man, with national points on the line, needs precise timing and the IPICO system delivered. We also had professional athletes in attendance and therefore everything needs to be 100% accurate."

One incident that could have had drastic consequences was when an official inadvertently placed timing chips on the mats. Darren comments "this was yet another occasion where the IPICO system came to the rescue. With any other product it would have been a disaster".

The event management software Sportscore simply ignored the additional readings and the Dual Frequency mats continued to read athletes as they came over the line. Single frequency systems would have got confused and athletes would not have been read as they came over the mats.

Times-7 Sport and Adelaide Vales Triathlon Club continue to develop their relationship and provide all South Australian triathletes with a world-class timing service.
