Times-7 Sport cemented its position as the leading innovator in the field of automated timing of cycling events with its cutting edge WheelTime system. WheelTime is the only passive (non battery-powered) UHF RFID timing system in the world that provides the accuracy and reliability to capture large numbers of riders travelling at high speeds.
With close to 11,000 cyclists the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is the country's biggest cycling event and is a huge logistical challenge to time. Keith Crate, Event Director, sums it up nicely "With ten individual and seven team events on offer this year we needed the best timing company in the business. We needed to be sure that we selected a team with the best software, equipment and experience to cope with this mammoth undertaking. Times-7 Sport was the best choice for us."
"This event provides unique challenges in the recording of accurate times," comments Gavin Chaplow, Event Manager Times-7 Sports. "Especially with the diversity of the events and differing levels of competition."
‘Take the Women's Hotdog Street Race, for example. These riders are finishing so close and at high speed that accurate times are simply critical', says Mr Chaplow. "Thankfully, WheelTime can deliver this level of accuracy and Sportscore has the flexibility to cope with the variety of events and the demanding results requirements."
Results from Sportscore were posted throughout the day, so that cyclists could finish their race, and then proceed to the timing board to check their times.
Sportscore is the most complete event management and timing software available today. For both manual and electronic timing, Sportscore's simple user interface, flexibility and comprehensive reporting makes it easier than ever to manage cycling, running, multisport and track and field events from club to international level.
"The Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is indeed a challenge," reflects Michael Lynch, General Manager Times-7 Sport. "But it is also incredibly rewarding. From the automated display of riders at Registration, to the capture of individual and team times at all the interchanges, to the live announcing of cyclists as they sprint down the finishing straight, to the sense of satisfaction seen on everyone's face as they read their result - it doesn't get any better than this."
