19 July 2009
The Ipico Elite Sports Time-Keeping system was used for the first occasion in Tasmania to time the 3rd Launceston 10k on July 19, 2009. This event is quickly gaining a reputation for fast times and this year was no exception with Australian running legend Steve Moneghetti setting an age-group world record.
Southern Race Timing used their Ipico system to provide results and accurately record the times and placings for the 1,355 people who braved the elements to test themselves over the 10km distance. The elite field boasted athletes from all over Australia as well as visitors from as far afield as Tanzania.
The men's winner was Melburnian Mark Tucker and Victoria's Nikki Chapple set a new course record when she took out the women's race. But the highlight of the day was Mona's run to set a new world record in the 45-49 age group of 30.00 minutes. Both the Ipico system and the judge's stopwatch recorded a time of 29.59.87 further demonstrating the known accuracy of the Ipico system.
Kim and Dirk Nankervis along with Charmaine Chugg & Rob Gillard were in charge of the Ipico system in Launceston under the tutelage of Times-7 Sport Event Manager Gavin Chaplow. Dirk says "we have used other systems in the last two years and the Ipico system is vastly superior. We were able to get instant results without the need for manual back-up, which is what we had to do in 2007 and 2008. It is always nerve-wracking just before a race, but we are pleased we made the decision to purchase this system and are looking forward to our next event. Thanks to Ipico and Sportscore, and the guidance from Gavin we were able to successfully time this rapidly-growing event and provide instant results."
Times-7 Sport Australia General Manager Peter Armson says "another event management company has joined the Times-7 Sport "family". We are expanding rapidly across the nation and we are really pleased to have Southern Race Timing as one of our valued customers as I know they will provide a great service to athletes in Tasmania."
