Logistical Challenges Overcome in Santos Tour Down Under Community Ride

Santos Tour Down Under Community Ride JerseyTimes-7 Sport and Cycling South Australia joined forces to time the 8,000 strong Community Challenge ride held in Adelaide on Jan 21 2011 as part of the highly successful Santos Tour Down Under.

The Community Challenge ride uses the same route as the Tour riders and gives all entrants an opportunity to experience what pro cyclists endure every day. There are four possible start points with differing length rides to give competitors of all abilities the chance to have a go. All riders finish at the same spot and this is also where the Tour riders finish their stage.

These requirements presented all manner of logistical issues but the IPICO timing system coupled together with the expertise on hand provided by Times-7 Sport and Cycling SA resulted in a great outcome all round.

This is the second consecutive year that the two organizations have worked together on this large scale event and improvements to the organization were evident with the reduction in registration time and the elimination of the start/finish bottlenecks.

Cycling SA CEO Max Stevens said "The Community Challenge ride is a great event and we are committed to making it a success. It was a superb effort all round to get the 8,000 riders through quickly and safely."
