The Pegasus and Papanui Cycling Clubs and Cycling Canterbury selected the Sylvester Motors Tour of Canterbury to debut their WheelTime electronic timing system and custom designed WheelTags.
Symon Mitchell, Tour of Canterbury Event Manager, summed up the reason behind the debut at such a significant event as "... a no-brainer. With eight grades riding five stages, King of the Mountain and Sprint Ace points, along with time bonus' up for grabs we needed a change from our spreadsheets and long hours of manual calculations."
"Sportscore and WheelTime really delivered," stated Ken Lasenby, Chief Commissaire. "The difficult jobs like identifying the cyclists' grade and finishing orders in bunch finishes just didn't exist. The commissaries could focus on dealing with issues and exceptions ensuring that everyone had a fair chance at winning the Tour."
"Sportscore's stage race functionality was very simple to use," continues Symon. "We had to produce over 140 reports for the Tour with most of these between the stages. The cyclists loved being able to track their progress after each stage so they could plan what they needed to do to win the Tour."
The two Clubs and Cycling Canterbury pooled their resources to purchase the WheelTime system and intend to use it on a weekly basis. Each club member will be permanently issued a WheelTag keeping the event registration process down to a minimum.
