Australian Junior Cycling Nationals, Canberra, 5-7 September 2008
As a precursor to future National Road Cycling Teams, the Australian Junior Cycling Championships held in Canberra in early September showcased emerging talent from all States.
Cycling ACT, under the technical regulations of Cycling Australia, organised the event for Under-15 and Under-17 Male and Female competitors held at the superb Stromlo Forest Park complex in the nation’s capital.
The Times-7 WheelTime cycling system was used on all three days and the close finishes certainly put the technology to the test. National Technical Director of Cycling Australia Ron Bonham says “We purchased this system for exactly this type of competition. Close finishes in our sport are commonplace and the speeds these juniors reach make it very difficult for even experienced judges to adjudicate. The WheelTime system makes our job easier and allows us to concentrate on other important facets of road cycling.” Ron adds “We are enjoying developing our partnership with Times-7 Sport as we seek continual improvement for our athletes.”
“On all three days the results were compiled and presented to the Commissaires immediately on the completion of each race,” says Gavin Chaplow, Times-7 Sport Event Timing Manager. “Our Sportscore software enables reports to be available at the push of a button.”
Steve Hosking Cycling ACT President says; “I was in the timing van for the entire meet and was very impressed by the capabilities of the WheelTime system. We at ACT Cycling are very keen to secure a system of our own for future events.”
“The endorsement of Cycling Australia is a significant vote of confidence in the WheelTime cycling system,” says Peter Armson, General Manager of Times-7 Sport Australia. “The simplicity and affordability of WheelTime and Sportscore products overcomes the barriers traditionally surrounding event timing. Our goal is to make event timing accessible to everyone.”
